Update from May 9, 2019

Forty-five participants gathered in Coltrane Lounge at Middlebury College for a stimulating gathering which included a bountiful potluck dinner.  Some highlights include:

ES 401 Class:  Jon Isham’s Senior Colloquium Class reported on their work doing interviews with VfV participants and with other Vermonters around the state.  The class reached out to Vermonters who were not present at the original VfV Summit last September.  In all the students interviewed 50 Vermonters, including farmers, migrant workers, teachers, people experiencing homelessness, African-American Vermonters, and indigenous Vermonters.  They produced a podcast which you can listen to here.

Vision Statement:  A small sub-committee of volunteers was formed to do further work on a Draft Vision Statement.

George Lakey:  George talked to us about the importance of having a vision to inform us as we seek to make Vermont a place that works for all.  He has been following our progress with Vision for Vermont and encouraged us to continue to reach out to people whose voices are not always heard.

Looking ahead:  Our second Vision Summit will be Saturday, September 14, 9:30-4:00 at the Bread Loaf campus.  We are looking at ways to broaden the leadership of those who will plan an agenda for this Summit.   A summer meeting to plan the second Summit is in the works.  Save the date and look for more details this summer.

Update from December 8, 2018

Two action items came out of the December 8 meeting where 30 participants gathered in Coltrane Lounge at Middlebury College.  Descriptions follow:

ES 401 Class:  We agreed to collaborate with Jon Isham’s Senior Colloquium Class for the spring semester.  Students have been meeting with VfV participants, interviewing some of us and also interviewing other Vermonters around the state.  The class is reaching out to Vermonters who were not present at the original VfV Summit last September.  We look forward to their report and their suggestions on where VfV can go from here.

Vision Statement:  A small sub-committee was formed to begin working on a Draft Vision Statement.  We have been working hard to synthesize the ideas we gleaned from the Vision Summit, the Dec. 8 meeting, and from other vision statements.  Check out the first draft here.
